Has your household grown so big that the family automobile has become a tight squeeze? Do you need to just face facts and go ahead and trade in your smaller sized vehicle for the larger one you really need? Yet, how does one decide if you want that minivan or the sport utility vehicle for your more spacious family vehicle?

With either vehicle, you will have ample space for five to eight passengers, and those passengers who are positioned in the rear of the car will enjoy taking advantage of the included entertainment system. Despite the fact that both seem to be designed with safety features such as anti-lock brakes and air bags, a minivan is less likely to roll over compared to an SUV. You will need to review your family's needs, and a closer evaluation of the individual vehicles to determine which one belongs in your garage.

Some determining factors when choosing a family vehicle;

  • Type of styling
  • Towing capacity
  • Fuel efficiency
  • Available space for the passengers
The style of a vehicle is usually just an issue of what you actually prefer. Many people have a preference for an SUV because the outdoor sporty look makes a nice impact. The minivan won't lose its reputation or relationship with carpooling and soccer moms. Minivans tend to be driven by women, no doubt for the reason that the majority of man prefer not to be seen driving the family minivan. Small children enjoy riding around in a minivan but, after they become teenagers, they consider it embarrassing to be delivered to school in a minivan. Where the minivans win out is in the fuel economy, as the SUVs are gas guzzlers. If you need the more economical vehicle, then the minivan will need to be your choice.

Servicing and insurance are usually lower for the minivan, so if you would like to be cool and stylish, you are going to have to pay for it. Small children typically prefer the spacious interior of a minivan even if, in reality, the cargo space and passenger space are typically very similar in both vehicles. Featuring its low step-in height and large windows, the minivan may be the top choice when your family has small children. When you are the weekend type, who hauls a boat to the nearby lakes, you'll want the SUV, with its superior towing capacities. As we discussed, a selection of a vehicle can be established mainly by the needs of your family rather than preferences.

When it comes right down to it, the safeness track record of the particular vehicle may be the key factor in your final decision. They equally possess safety features that are equivalent, but the higher rollover threat goes to the SUVs. On the flip side, rollovers just happen in a very small percentage of accidents and SUVs provide superior protection in two-car collisions. For anyone who is more worried about a rollover, then the minivan will give you better peace of mind.

Whichever your choice, it is important that both vehicle requires a proper and regular maintenance. Always remember to check the user manual for the recommended maintenance like changing the engine oil and transmission fluid. The car transmission is one of the vital parts in a car. It is important to remember that this particular part requires constant attention and maintenance like monitoring the transmission fluid and changing it in a regular basis. The transmission slipping website have tips and troubleshooting ideas and tips for the transmission. Do not overlook this particular part as this specific part is really expensive. You'll be glad you did a good maintenance of your car's transmission as surely this can save you a significant amount money in the long run for the expensive transmission repair cost, or more expensive if it really necessary to replace it.

The Mk1 GTI

The Volkswagen Golf GTI was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1975, arriving in the UK two years later in 1977. Originally the car arrived in the UK as left hand drive, leading to sales of just 34 vehicles in it's first year on our shores. As the first 'hot hatch' sales of the Mk1 GTI quickly gather pace, the little car could hit 60mph in 9 seconds and reach a top speed just short of 110mph. Once it's 1588cc engine, four speed gearbox and 108bhp were complimented with a right hand drive model in 1979, buyers flocked to Volkswagen dealers across the country and sales topped 1,570, trebling within two years. The Mk1 Golf GTI are something of a collectors item nowadays, finding a decent one is likely to set you back over £3000.

The Mk2 GTI

The Mk2 Golf GTI took over from the Mk1 in 1984 offering a 1781cc engine and 113bhp. The Mk2 is slightly larger than the Mk1 and of course slightly heavier. This meant power to weight had little improvement overall from the Mk1. However Volkswagen released a 16v, 138bhp engine capable of 130mph in 8 seconds and a top speed of 130mph, which soon grabbed the attention of potential buyers. Many enthusiasts feel this Mk2 is the best of the Golf GTIs. Sales of the Mk2 peaked at just over 17,190 in 1989 an the car remains a popular hot hatch to this day.

The Mk3 GTI

When unveiled in 1992 it's 2.0 8v produced a bhp of 113bhp, showing no increase from the 1.8 Mk2 engine. Although the car's aero dynamics had been improved, it was heavier than it's predecessor. Volkswagen managed to regain popularity with the meatier 2.0 16v 150bhp engine. With a top speed of 133mph and a 0-60 of 8.3 seconds the Golf GTI was back on top. However it's 0-62mph remained slightly slower that the Mk2 thanks to it's increased weight, and despite the new aero dynamics the average mpg was only 25.3mpg. Perhaps for these reasons the Mk3 GTI was, and remains a less popular car.

The Mk4 GTI

The Mk4 GTI can be a contentious vehicle. Released in 1998 the line up was altered to include the first diesel GTI engine, bringing it to the interest of company car owners across the country and changing the Golf GTI's image. The GTI was picking up a lot of competition, and some feel that the Mk4 effort did not match expectation. The 123 and 148bhp engines in heavy cars did not tantalise the GTI crowd. What did get them salivating again was the release of the 180bhp Anniversary Edition which went on to inspire the Mk5 Golf GTI. The Anniversary was built to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the the first Golf GTI. It's high specification level including Recaro seats, and torquey performance made it a sure fire hit for GTI enthusiasts.

The Mk5 GTI

The Mk5 was launched at the Paris Motors Show in 2004. With it's new 2.0, 200 bhp engine and six speed gearbox teamed with nods to the original such as the tartan interior red grille surround the Mk5 was a true contender on the hot hatch market once again. Production stopped in 2008 with reports of high production costs, totalling sales of over 17,600 units in it's four year reign.

It's always wise to have your beloved GTI cared for by experts. Regular maintenance and careful ownership help preserve the value of the car and keep it in tip top condition. Volkswagen dealer and Volkswagen servicing and repairs may not be as steep as you think in today's competitive after sales market and potential buyers are keen to see the Volkswagen dealer stamp throughout a car's service book.

However, the key to getting the right value is to get an honest and impartial valuation. To get this, you must use a qualified, experienced valuer who will give you the true value of the market potential of your plate.

You should look for experts who will give you the current value - what they believe that you could get upon the sale of your registration plate today. Some valuers will give you a value based on historic values; this is not what you want. Others will value your personalised number plate based on future demand. You don't want that either. You want a value based on current market rates.

This article equips you with all the information you need to know before you go to a valuation expert.

1. Target market

There are many factors which are taken into account when a valuer is valuing a plate. These include:

  • How appealing to a wide audience is it?
  • Does it have numbers as word or words as numbers?
  • What substitutions are made with the spelling?
  • Does it have a popular name on it?
  • Does it have a popular number on it?
  • Can you read it without straining your eyes?
  • Is it dateless?
  • Does it have one of the key numbers (e.g., 1) in it?
These factors among others will determine the value of your registration plate due to the market demand for it. While the valuer should see if there are any special or unique associations with the plate sometimes they may not spot them so make sure to point them out.

2. Similar registrations

Spend time on the dealer's websites or magazines looking at similar registrations. It helps to look at other plates that are available on the market which are similar in nature as your own. You'll get an idea of how much your own number plate is worth before the valuer comes back to you.

3. Fees

Some valuers will charge for a valuation; others will not. Others factor in their commission and marketing costs. An honest dealer will be up-front and transparent about their charges.

4. Time frames

Valuers value plates every day so they should know quite quickly how much your personalised number plate is worth. As many sellers use three companies for valuations, the number plate companies tend to get really busy, especially over busy times like the weekends, the summer and Christmas. Expect your number plate valuation back within three days at a maximum.

In summary, if you really want to find out how much your number plate is really worth, you need to have it professionally valued by people with experience in the market.

Movement across locations in terms of a state, country or even overseas has become the norm nowadays and what bothers the owners the most is the car transport cost. Since most of the people are proud owners of a four-wheeler, it becomes an imperative to assess the expenses that would be associated with relocating to another location. As opposed to earlier days when people preferred driving down to their destinations, nowadays due to the excessive luggage movement in a car does not seem to be a viable option. Many individuals avail the services of companies which transport cars across locations.

In certain cases, wherein families are out for a vacation, they prefer driving their own cars. In such cases, car companies which offer transportation facilities are a boon. Most of the times, there are two options which can be utilized by the owners; allowing someone to drive the car between the locations or have it shipped it across through transport carriers. The car transport cost through shipping is based on the distance across which the car needs to be driven, fuel expenses are inclusive of the fee depending on the mileage. However, this option cannot be availed for overseas transportation.

Another factor which needs to be kept in mind while car transportation takes place is the safety of the vehicle. Car transport cost in case of car carrier is much more as compared to the cost incurred in shipping the vehicle. However, the former is a much safer way of transporting the car. The shipping can be undertaken in an open or an enclosed trailer truck. Quite obviously, the enclosed method is much safer and therefore costlier. In case the individual plans to transport a Vintage car, an enclosed trailer is always preferable as opposed to an open one which increases the likelihood of damage to the vehicle.

Apart from the wear and tear which can be caused by the shipping vehicle, even the climatic conditions such as rain, dirt, sunlight and dust can spoil the sheen of the car. In case of International movement, choice can be made between sole use and shared containers. Car transport cost for sole use container would be fairly higher than that of the shared one. But for a car which in itself is expensive; with an extra fee, the services of a container which is of sole use can be availed. This would reassure the safety of your precious asset.

Before availing the services of such companies, one should inquire about the Insurance which is provided mostly by the reputed shipping firms. Prior to signing the contract for such shipping corporations, you could have a better understanding of the factors which have been outlined in the contract. There might be certain car carriers which charge an additional fee for the services offered by them including Insurance. Car transport cost is certainly essential while gauging the cost of movement but it should not exceed beyond your budget and should also safeguard your assets.

Homeowner, car owners, business owners - they're all the same when it comes to sharing the goal of longevity. Whether we are talking about your home, car, or business the goal is to get as much out of it as possible. That is why keeping up with roof repairs, tax forms, or oil changes are all top on the priority list. Things like these are all prime actions to take in order to maintain a healthy home, car or business. I am here to stress the importance of preventative maintenance services to your automobile. Not only does maintenance keep your automobile in good internal condition, it also keeps the driver and passengers safe. Let me explain...

One can only begin to list the dangers on the road. Not only do we have to worry about other drivers (drunk drivers!) and undesirable weather conditions, but we have to worry about our cars giving out - a problem that leaves many drivers turning on their "E" lights and pulling over. Location, time of day, and weather can all be scary things when brought face to face with a stranded driver on the side of the road. Imagine being stuck by yourself on the side of the road when the whole situation could have been avoided by performing simple car maintenance. Ignoring oil changes and tune ups are just two examples of preventive services.

On a less traumatic note, preventative maintenance helps your car sustain its value. Those that are interested in eventually selling or trading in their vehicle are especially interested in keep up with the regular suggested services. Matter of fact, did you know that most dealerships will actually mail "friendly reminders" when it is time to take your car in? Those postcards aren't just to bring in more service; they are they to help you. Plus, how easy is it to find an oil or filter change coupon?

Car owners have it easy when it comes to keeping up the maintenance of their vehicle. If you think about it, why wouldn't something keep up with their car maintenance? When you look at the returns for keeping up with simple tune ups and alignments and so forth, it is easy to see why they are so important. Not only do these services help you keep the value of your car as high as possible, but they keep you safe on the road. From one car owner to another, keep up with your preventative maintenance.

The Honda Insight may not be the car that saves the world and reduces the issue of global warming to a distant memory. However the fact that it is a viable choice for suburban families to make is a step in that direction. Without getting off topic for too long I imagine that the Honda Clarity, a hydrogen powered car is the genuine way forward to a world without quite so many crazy weather patterns. However for now hydrogen service stations are few and far between, leaving us with a choice of either a bicycle or a hybrid. Which at least is one small step for man, in the right direction of, one giant leap for mankind.

The little 1.3 litre i-VTEC engine that is the primary power source of the Insight is zippy and chirpy even when the ECON button is engaged, which I am told reduces the motor's output to assist the driver be more economical. It just made me have more fun with the glowing green dials (when driving economically) and the blue dials (when driving not so economically). The petrol engine gets a helping boost from a 10 kilowatt electric motor, which may not sound like much but being an electric motor the torque is instant. My fun was aided by the paddle shifters attached to the steering wheel, making this car an altogether surprising package. Especially since it has a constantly variable transmission and the paddle shifters simulate seven gear changes. It's not bland and it's not slow, well not for what it is designed to do at any rate. It is a delight to drive with incredibly light but precise steering and once you get used to the auto stop of the engine in traffic or at lights it is peaceful and calm as well.

In terms of aesthetics the Insight is quite a nice car to look at, and it has a host of features as standard. What you get with the Insight, aside from the Honda quality is a safe car that carries the 5 star ANCAP rating. Therefore you will have all the airbags, anti lock brakes, stability control and a body shell that has what Honda describes as crash protection engineering. You also get cruise control, blue tooth hands free phone connectivity, iPod phone dock with usb connectivity, keyless entry and climate control.

But above all the features, and the look, and the safety, and the way the car drives, what you get with an Insight is just that. An insight to the future of how we need to drive and behave on our planet. You learn to be more economical in your driving patterns; you are challenged to get more from less every time you start off. Ultimately that must lead us to positive change, lower emissions and a greener future and not just because the floods left a green slime behind.

Check out the Honda Insight for yourself at Bunbury Honda on Bussell Highway, say hi to the Jones boys and see how you manage on the eco test drive.
